Privacy policy

wentThere is an iPhone app for keeping a map of the places you love and seeing the ones your friends love. This policy explains what it collects, how that’s used, and how to delete it. Questions: support@wentthereapp.com.

What we collect

• Your account: your email address, to send you sign-in codes.
• Your profile: your name, your home town and the countries you choose.
• What you add: places, how you rated them, your tips, when you went and any photos. Photos are saved without their location or other hidden details.
• Your friends: who you swap tips with, and friend requests.
• Your phone number, if you add it: stored only in scrambled form, with its last two digits, so people who have your number can find you.
• Your contacts, only when you look for friends: your phone sends scrambled phone numbers to check who’s on wentThere. Names never leave your phone, and the numbers aren’t stored.
• Your location, only if you tap “Use where I am” when choosing your home: it’s used to find your town, and only the town is kept.

How we use it

Only to run wentThere for you: to show your places to you and the people you choose, and to keep the service secure. Your friends see what you add, except places marked “Just me”. Friends of your friends see only the places you loved, with your first name and tip; you can turn that off in Settings. People you ask to swap tips see your name, home town and countries.

Services we use

• Supabase stores your account and what you add, in the EU (Ireland).
• Resend sends your sign-in emails.
• Apple provides the map and place search, including finding places near a photo or your location.
• Google, only if you import a Google Maps list.
• Wikimedia provides city photos: your phone looks up city names.
• Cloudflare hosts this website.

These services get only the data they need to do their part, and protect it at least as well as this policy does.

Keeping and deleting your data

• We keep what you add until you delete it. Deleting a place you logged deletes its photo too.
• To delete your account and everything in it, photos included, open Settings in the app (the gear on the You tab) and tap Delete account. It happens straight away and can’t be undone. If you can’t use the app, email support@wentthereapp.com from the address you sign in with, and we’ll do it within 30 days.
• You can withdraw wentThere’s access to your contacts, photos or location at any time in iOS Settings.
• Our server’s request logs are kept for one day.

Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of your data, or to correct or delete it, by emailing support@wentthereapp.com. If you’re in the EU, the EEA or the UK, you can also complain to your data protection authority.

wentThere isn’t meant for children under 13. If this policy changes, we’ll update this page and its date.
